Course Overview

This course is designed for adult learners completing high school credit requirements. The curriculum aligns with the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) for Geometry, focusing on the properties of shapes, logical reasoning, and spatial relationships.

Goal: Build mathematical confidence through clear instruction and consistent practice, emphasizing core concepts over rote memorization.

Required Materials

Class Routine & Flow

1. Start of Class Come in, grab your paper, pencil, and Chromebook. Be ready to work!
2. Warm Up Complete 1-2 problems on the board. We will discuss these together.
3. Main Lesson I use slides and examples on the board. Please take notes during this time.
4. Practice Work on a practice worksheet (Independent or Group work).
5. Closing Complete the Exit Ticket to show what you learned.

Submitting Work: All work must be turned into the tray or handed directly to me to be graded.

Distance, midpoint, slope of parallel/perpendicular lines.
Week 3 Jan 20 - 23 Transformations & Symmetry
Translations, reflections, rotations.
Week 4 Jan 27 - 30 Triangle Properties
Congruence postulates and logical proofs.
Week 5 Feb 3 - 6 Right Triangles & Trig
Pythagorean Theorem, Sine, Cosine, Tangent.
Week 6 Feb 10 - 13 Polygons & Circles
Quadrilaterals, angles, circle arcs.
Week 7 Feb 17 - 20 3D Figures
Surface area and volume of solids.
Week 8 Feb 24 - 27 Review & Final Exam
Comprehensive review and assessment.

  • 30% Guided Notes Participation
  • 30% In-Class Practice
  • 20% Assessments (Quizzes)

Scale

  • A: 90 - 100%
  • B: 80 - 89%
  • C: 70 - 79%
  • D: 60 - 69%
  • F: Below 60%

Policies & Support

Late Work Policy: I will accept assignments up to one week late; after that, it is considered missed.

Attendance: Regular attendance is critical for an 8-week course. Please communicate any absences via email promptly. If you communicate ahead of time, I can have materials ready for you upon your return.

Make-Up Work: Fridays are the best days for making up material/tutoring, but we can be flexible to accommodate your schedule as needed.

Accommodations: If you have specific needs (larger fonts, printed notes, preferential seating), please let me know immediately so I can ensure you have the tools to succeed.

Professional Conduct: A respectful and focused environment is required. Please be respectful of everyone's time and limit personal device usage to breaks.
