Day 2: Angle Relationships

Today's Objective

Warm-Up: Review

Yesterday we learned that a transversal is a line that intersects two or more other lines. This creates eight different angles.

Location, Location, Location!

The angles have special names based on their location.

Interior means between the two lines.

Exterior means outside the two lines.

l m t INTERIOR EXTERIOR EXTERIOR

Vocabulary: The Angle Pairs

Corresponding Angles: In the same position at each intersection (e.g., top left corner).

Alternate Interior Angles: In the interior region, on opposite sides of the transversal.

Alternate Exterior Angles: In the exterior region, on opposite sides of the transversal.

Same-Side Interior Angles: In the interior region, on the same side of the transversal.

I Do: Identifying Pairs

∠4 and ∠5 are Alternate Interior Angles.

∠2 and ∠7 are Alternate Exterior Angles.

∠1 and ∠5 are Corresponding Angles.

∠4 and ∠6 are Same-Side Interior Angles.

I Do: Visualizing Corresponding Angles

Corresponding Angles are in the same "corner" at each intersection. Imagine sliding the top intersection down onto the bottom one.

∠1 and ∠5 are corresponding.

∠2 and ∠6 are corresponding.

∠4 and ∠8 are corresponding.

∠3 and ∠7 are corresponding.

Real World Connection

A B

Think of the lines on a crosswalk.

The edges of the road are like parallel lines, and the painted stripes are transversals.

Angle A and Angle B are alternate interior angles.

We Do: Let's Try Together

Using the diagram, classify the angle pairs.

1. ∠2 and ∠6 are _______________?

2. ∠4 and ∠6 are _______________?

You Do: Practice Time!

Now, open your interactive notes to Day 2 and complete the "You Do" section.

Independent Practice

Use the diagram for all problems.

Green Level

Name a pair of corresponding angles.

Yellow Level

Angle 1 and Angle __ are alternate exterior angles.

Red Level

Name all four angles that are in the INTERIOR region.
