Course Overview
Welcome to Math Foundations! This self-paced online course is designed to build the essential pre-algebra skills needed for success in Algebra 1.
My Role: While the lessons are online, I am here to guide you, provide one-on-one help, and lead mini-lessons when you need extra support.
Materials Needed
- Notebook or binder for notes
- Pencils and erasers
- Calculator (Scientific or Desmos)
- Laptop/Computer with internet
Class Routine & Flow
1. Start of Class
Come in, grab your paper, pencil, and Chromebook. Be ready to work!
2. Warm Up
Complete 1-2 problems on the board. We will discuss these together.
3. Main Lesson
I use slides and examples on the board. Please take notes during this time.
4. Practice
Work on a practice worksheet (Independent or Group work).
5. Closing
Complete the Exit Ticket to show what you learned.
Submitting Work: All work must be turned into the tray or handed directly to me to be graded.
Make-Up Work & Support
Fridays are the best days for making up material, but we can talk and be flexible to accommodate your schedule as needed.
Accommodations: If you have specific needs (such as larger fonts, printed notes, or preferential seating), please let me know immediately so I can ensure you have the tools to succeed.

- Unit 1: Whole Number Foundations
- Place value, estimation, operations (+, -, x, ÷), PEMDAS.
- Unit 2: Understanding Fractions
- Visualizing fractions, simplifying, comparing sizes.
- Unit 3: Decimals & Percents
- Connecting fractions, decimals, and percents ("out of 100").
- Unit 4: Operations
- Real-world math with fractions and decimals (money, measurement).
- Unit 5: Ratios & Rates
- Proportional reasoning, unit rates (cost per ounce).
- Unit 6: Applications
- Solving everyday problems: discounts, tax, tips.
- Unit 7: Intro to Algebra
- Integers (pos/neg numbers), variables, writing expressions.
- Unit 8: Equations & Graphing
- Solving one- and two-step equations, plotting points (x, y).
Grading & Progress
This is a Competency-Based course. There are no traditional letter grades assigned by me.
Success = Completion. You must finish all required modules, practice sets, and assessments in the online platform to pass the course.
Late Work Policy
I will accept assignments up to one week late; after that, it is considered missed.
Communication is key! If you know you are not going to attend class, please communicate with me. I can have materials ready for you at the beginning of class when you return or send them home with you.
Please be respectful of everyone's time and be considerate.
Expectations
- Work Consistently: Log in and make progress every week.
- Take Notes: Treat the online videos like a real lecture.
- Ask for Help: Do not spin your wheels. If you are stuck, ask me!
