Day 1: What is a Decimal?

Key Concept: The decimal point separates the whole number part from the fractional part. The first place to the right is the tenths place, and the second is the hundredths place.

1. Write "thirty-six and fifteen hundredths" as a decimal.

Day 2: Comparing & Ordering Decimals

Key Concept: To compare decimals, line up the decimal points and compare digits from left to right. You can add zeros to the end of a decimal (annex zeros) without changing its value.

6. Order the following decimals from least to greatest: 5.8, 5.08, 5.81, 5.18

Day 3: Adding & Subtracting Decimals

Key Concept: The golden rule is to line up the decimal points before you add or subtract. Bring the decimal point straight down into your answer.

Day 4: Introduction to Percent

Key Concept: "Percent" means "per hundred" or "out of 100". A percent is a special fraction with a denominator of 100.

12. Write 45% as a fraction.

13. Write the fraction 7/100 as a percent.

14. If 23 out of 100 students are in the band, what percent of students are in the band?

Day 5: The Big Connection (FDP)

Key Concepts:

  • Fraction to Decimal: Divide the numerator by the denominator.
  • Decimal to Percent: Move the decimal point two places to the RIGHT.
  • Percent to Decimal: Move the decimal point two places to the LEFT.
  • Decimal to Fraction: Say it, write it, simplify it!
